The Cast & Crew

Blake Wilson (Kenny)

I am the assistant pastor at Paradise Evangelical Free Church of Paradise, CA. As an avid outdoorsman and lover of adventures, it is an honor to be part of the Journey to Novarupta cast. It is my prayer that Lord will use this audio to glorify His name through the teaching of Jesus Christ as scientific research helps us better understand the world through the Genesis creation and flood accounts.

Rick Carhart (David)

I was born in Hawaii, and grew up in Minnesota and Northern California. I am a television news photographer (and a reporter when they make me!), so I meet and talk to many people in my community. I believe my job is to be a good and Godly influence on the people I work with and I try to bring Salt and Light to the nightly news whenever I can. I am married to Melissa, my highschool sweetheart, and we have two kids: 14-year-old Jason and 12-year-old Madison.

Cari Tarter (Ashley)

I’m excited to be a part of Journey to Novarupta in my first voice acting role. I have been involved with CreationWorks for the past 3 years, along with my husband, Harold, and our three sons. I believe the creation message is very important in establishing the truth of God's Word, and is the beginning of the Gospel message. God created man perfect. It was man who chose to sin which separated him from God. For this reason, Christ was born, lived a sinless life, died a horrific death, and rose 3 days later. I homeschool my sons and enjoy this journey of learning alongside them.

Harold Tarter (Mike)

I have been involved with Pat Roy for the last 3 years, discipling young people in the radio ministry, and acted on the last 2 Jonathan Park albums. I am currently wrapping up my automotive business to pursue a ministry in the audio and video field with My wife Cari, of 18 years. We have been homeschooling our 3 sons, Luke, Levi, and Dakota, for the last 9 years.

Brad Feingold (John)

I am a big sports enthusiast. I love everything about it and hope to become a sports broadcaster one day. I am a junior in college and am apart of Cru at Chico state. I hope to one day use my skills to tell people about the gospel around the world.

Joel Driscoll (Joel)

I am 19 years old and a student at Moody Bible Institute – Spokane, where I am studying Missionary Aviation. Even though I say I’m from Chico, California, I really grew up as a "Missionary Kid” in Japan. I aspire to one day go overseas as a missionary pilot and share the gospel with people who have never heard it before. Some of my favorite things to do are running, team sports, snowboarding, reading, playing guitar, and flying airplanes.

Jonathan Roy (Tommy)

I am a California State University, Chico graduate – with two majors in Mathematics and an almost-minor in Physics. While making my way through college I helped to produce various Jonathan Park episodes over various albums, and continue to help out with the production where I can! While I’ve never really dipped into voice acting myself, aside from a few impressions, it has been a fun experience being involved in this new production about Novarupta! For me these productions are more than just getting the word out there for more and more people to hear, it is also to help educate those who would otherwise not know that there really is a scientific foundation for what we believe! Also, my favorite color is red. This is important. Trust me.

Catherine Sweetman (Karen)

I received Christ as my Lord and Savior at age 11. Attending public school through the 60’s and 70’s, I experienced the damaging changes in education which seek to suppress God’s truth, yet during that time Christian clubs were still allowed on campus. I graduated from Westmont College with a BA in music in 1975 and have always valued how the Lord can use the arts in spreading His truth. At the age of 41 I was widowed with 3 children. God proved His faithfulness in providing for me and my children as they grew up, and continues to this day. Now, as a grandmother, and with continued deep appreciation of the many ways God’s truth can be shared to our youth, I enjoy the opportunity to lend my voice to God honoring radio theatre.

Melody Roy (Ellie)

My name is Melody. I'm nine years old. I always wanted to have a nice-sized part in a radio drama, but I could only be in little parts for my Dad in Jonathan Park. I did a part in a play before. I'm glad that I can be in a radio drama that glorifies God.

David Calkins (Dr. Robert Griggs)

My wife, Mary and I have been married 52 years. I’m a retired math teacher with 50 years in the classroom. I have two children and two grandchildren.  I have been involved in dramatic productions since 1958. I am currently the Scripture reader at Grace Brethren Church, and perform old-time radio shows.

Allen Van Laan (Folsom)

I am a 53 year old Chico native married to Jane in 1985. We have 6 children ranging in age from 7-29. We attend Calvary Chapel Chico. This was my first experience doing something like this but I had a great time and I look forward to seeing how God will use this excellent program. To Him be the glory!

Duane Riffenburgh (Ivan)

I am a voice actor and scriptwriter. I live with my family in the mountains of Southern California. My family and I are now working on an audio drama anthology series called The Creation Adventure Family. We have already produced our first story about Rick Wraith, a detective and his family who solve mysteries during the 1930’s. I have voiced over 30 different characters in the popular Jonathan Park radio drama. To create the voice of Ivan, I studied actual Inuit Eskimo dialects.

Tara Wixom (Ranger)

Hi my name is Tara Wixom and first of all, I strive to be a woman after God's own heart. I am 16, almost 17. I am a junior in high school and have been homeschooled my whole life. I enjoy playing the piano, the guitar, and the flute. I also enjoy reading books and hanging out with my friends and my younger sister, my mom, and my dad. I like being adventurous and trying new things. My favorite verse is 1 Timothy 4:12, "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

Lance Alldrin (Zies)

I’ve spent most of my 50 years in Chico CA. I work as a high school counselor during the school year and a commercial fisherman in Alaska during the summer. I’ve been married to my lovely wife Mary for 26 yrs (and she’s a cancer survivor, yea God!) and we have 3 teenage boys. Its great to be a part of a radio drama revealing Biblical truths about creation to today’s youth. Remember, it takes more faith to believe that two single celled particles got together and evolved into the world than it does to believe in our God’s creation story!

Jason Gregg (Yori)

I’m a graduate of San Jose State University, with a Major in Music Education and a minor in Human Performance, and hold a current California Teaching Credential. I have been working as a Director of Technology for past 5 years where I have served the 22 schools and over 12,000 students at Chico Unified School District. My passion lies with my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and serving Him at Grace Bible Church of Chico. My service there includes leading music and teaching the youth. As a child who was adopted at a very young age, my wife and I have adopted two children from DR Congo, and have two wonderful biological children as well. I see adoption as the gospel lived out in the flesh as Christians are adopted into the family of God through Christ Jesus.

John Burell (Pilot)

I was raised in the south. I have appeared in plays and musicals in high school and college. My two favorites are Showboat and Phantom of the Opera. After high school I made a career of the Marine Corps and after that went into the Criminal Justice system. First, I was a Parole Officer, then a Police Officer, and then as a Court Liaison Officer. I presently live in Paradise, CA with my beautiful wife, and am active at Paradise Evangelical Free Church.

 Dakota Tarter (Mark)

I’m 12 years old and in the 7th grade. I like to draw, play soccer, and kickball. Besides acting in the Journey to Novarupta radio drama, I’ve also helped with the Journey to Novarupta video documentary.

 Luke Tarter (Allen/Recording Assistant)

I’m 16 years old and in the 10th grade. My father, mother, and one of my two younger brothers also play in the Journey to Novarupta. I’ve also edited audio productions for CreationWorks, and am currently working on editing the Journey to Novarupta video documentary.

Frank Montenegro (Stranger in the Wilderness)

I consider the voice work on Novarupta to be some of the most important of my career. There is no greater cause than the furtherance of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The eternal value of these audio broadcasts simply cannot be measured. I consider it the highest of privileges to be part of this amazing group of Godly people.

bio-isaac-taylor.jpgIsaac Taylor (Son of the Stranger in the Wilderness)

I’m a freshman at Heritage Christian School, an ISP for homeschool students. I’m a member of the football and basketball teams and I compete in speech and debate, where I’ve won championships in original oratory and dramatic interpretation categories. I also enjoy acting. I’ve had roles in San Diego Junior Theater and Shadow Mountain Community Church productions. One of my most significant accomplishments is playing Jonathan in the radio adventure drama Jonathan Park that is broadcast on over 700 radio stations worldwide. I am an avid reader, and I play piano and drums and I love anything on wheels from mountain biking to super cars.

Sandy Roy (Co-writer/Director)

I’ve always enjoyed acting and writing and am so fortunate that God has enabled me to use those talents to help create, write, direct, and edit first Jonathan Park and now, this new broadcast, Novarupta. It’s been a great experience to be a part of this exciting Alaskan adventure.

Pat Roy (So-writer/Dialogue Editor/Sound Designer)

Since I was 12, I’ve loved making radio dramas. I remember making them with my neighborhood gang with a portable cassette deck! What a joy to be involved in a production about a team of explorers that braved dangerous situations to tell people about the trustworthiness of God’s Word! I have learned so much from Dr. Shormann during this experience.
